sidux 2008-02

Contributed by slh on Jun 25, 2008 - 11:01 PM | 27235 reads

A little later than planned due to a number of library transitions in Debian/ sid, we now have the pleasure to announce the immediate availability of sidux 2008-02 "Έρεβος", shipping in roughly ≈470 MB kde-lite flavours for amd64 and i386 (i686), a combined i386+amd64 release with ≈1.5 GB KDE for kde-full and, as usual, an xdelta to add initial localisations for all currently supported languages. Enhancing the sidux family, a roughly ≈420 MB large XFCE variant has been added for amd64 and i386 (i686) for the first time.

sidux is a full featured Debian sid based live CD with a special focus on hard disk installations, a clean upgrade path within sid and additional hard- and software support. The ISO is completely based on Debian sid, enriched and stabilized with sidux' own packages and scripts.

Fixed: qt-x11-free breaks KDE

Today's dist-upgrade brought a broken set of qt-x11-free packages.

It will break most KDE apps.

Better do not dist-upgrade untill the situation is completly clarified.

For those that have already done a dist-upgrade we are trying to find a solution for the problem.

For a first workaround take look into this forum's thread

edit: 32 & 64 bit fixed as of now

On 24th of November 2006 sidux was formed by a group of people who strive to do the impossible: making Debian Sid (aka “Unstable”) stable. The goal is becoming the best Debian Sid based live distro with special focus on clean and easy hard disk install. Strategic milestones and 3–4 planned releases timetabled will give stability and accountability to corporate and home users with a demand for bleeding edge software running on modern hardware, and a definable path over time.
